Hortense Bioy, CFA, is Director of Passive Strategies and Sustainability Research within the Morningstar Manager Research team in Europe. Based in London, Hortense leads a team that provides independent research on ETFs and index funds.
Since 2017, Hortense's responsibilities have expanded to include sustainability research in Europe. Hortense is spearheading Morningstar's ESG thought-leadership agenda in the region, with the objective of educating investors and providing them with the tools they need to evaluate funds through an ESG lens.
Hortense joined Morningstar as an equity ETF analyst in 2010 from Bloomberg where she was a financial journalist. She began her career as an M&A analyst at Société Générale in Hong Kong.
Hortense was in the 2019 ETF Stream's 30 Index, which acknowledges the most influential experts across the European ETF industry. Morningstar passive research, under Hortense, won the category of "Best Thought Leadership Paper" at the Investment Week Fund Services Awards 2015, "Best ETF Research" at the Investment Week Investment Research Awards 2017, and "Best ETF Research Provider" at the ETFExpress Awards 2017.

Janus Henderson Investors
James de Bunsen is a Portfolio Manager on Janus Henderson Investors' UK-based Multi-Asset Team, a position he has held since joining Henderson in 2013. In this role, James focuses on alternative asset classes and strategies. Prior to Henderson, he worked for multi-asset boutique Armstrong Investment Managers (AIM) from 2010, where he helped run a number of multi-asset strategies targeting real returns above inflation within clearly defined risk budgets.
Prior to joining AIM, James spent five years at Insight Investment as part of the same multi-asset team that launched the first retail multi-asset fund in the UK, and later formed AIM. At both Insight and AIM, this same team won several performance awards from FT Pension & Investment, HFM Europe, and BarclayHedge among others. Prior to Insight, he spent several years working as a journalist and editor at a variety of business magazines. James graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in ancient history and archaeology. He holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 13 years of financial industry experience.

Ryan started his career in 1999 working for an independent financial adviser, progressing to become Head of Portfolio Management at an award-winning advisory firm. Ryan then joined a global asset management firm as a Fund Manager, where he oversaw more than £10bn of multi-asset portfolios and also sat on the investment and global asset allocation committees. After seven years, Ryan joined a small multi-asset boutique managing portfolios for clients all around the world, before joining AJ Bell three years later to help establish our investment capability. As Head of Active Portfolios, Ryan now oversees all actively managed investment solutions and fund research.
Chelsea Financial Services
Darius has clocked up more than twenty years in the investment industry, all of which have been spent with Chelsea Financial Services. He joined the company's training scheme in February 1996, After graduating from Birmingham University with a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, he joined Chelsea's graduate training scheme in February 1996. He rose through the ranks quickly and was promoted to managing director four years later in February 2000.
In 2014, Darius helped to launch FundCalibre, a ratings and research business. Today, as well as managing both businesses and being part of the research teams, Darius also leads the team of investment advisors on the VT Chelsea managed range of four multi-manager funds and is Chairman of the Association for Independent Discount and Non-Advisory Brokers (AIDB).
Darius also has an active role in the financial media and is quoted regularly in both national newspapers and more specialist financial publications. I lead the investment team on our managed funds launched in June 2017.
Head of Lipper UK & Ireland Research
Jake joined in 2013 as Head of Lipper UK & Ireland Research. Since 1998, he has specialised in mutual fund research & selection, fund-of-funds portfolio management and asset allocation strategies.
He spent six years as a portfolio manager and fund selector at AIG and has been a mutual fund research specialist for Lloyds Banking Group, Towry and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He is a trustee director of the Thomson Reuters UK Pension Plan.
Jake is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment (CISI) and a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (Finsia).
Legal and General Investment Management
Justin is a fund manager within the Multi-Asset Funds team, leading on the management of the team's retail and risk-profiled multi-asset funds. Prior to joining LGIM in August 2013, Justin was a fund manager with Aviva Investors' multi-asset team combining both strategic and dynamic asset allocation with manager selection in the construction of multi-asset portfolios. He was lead fund manager on a range of risk-targeting multi-asset funds and co-lead fund manager on a number of unit-linked Life and Pension funds, as well as manager of manager offerings. Justin previously worked as a fund research analyst at Merrill Lynch and an investment consultant for Aon Consulting. Justin is a CFA charterholder and holds a degree in economics from the University of Warwick and the Investment Management Certificate.
Stephen joined Barclays in October 2016, and is responsible for researching UK Equity funds and UK equity multi-manager funds with over £1.5bn of assets held within them. He is also responsible for researching Tax Efficient vehicles and Closed Ended Funds.
He joined from Charles Stanley, where he worked for nine years and led the company's fund research team, as well as being co-manager of its multi-asset model portfolio service. He specialized in equity and alternative income funds as well as investment trusts, and was a regular contributor to the media providing comment and opinion on the fund management industry.
Prior to Charles Stanley, he worked at Hewitt Associates for over four years as a member of its manager research team. Stephen has a degree in Psychology from Essex University and is a CFA Charterholder.

Ian has been with Premier since 2000 and was formerly the Senior Research Analyst for Closed End funds, having worked on a Global Equity and Utility & Infrastructure desks. Prior to his time at Premier, Ian started his career as an investment adviser before becoming a private client manager utilising third party funds. Ian has oversight for all research sectors and maintains sector responsibility for UK Equity, Structured Investments, Alternative Strategies along with selected Absolute Return Strategies.

Ebru Smith Consultancy
Ebru Smith worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years starting her career as an analyst & reporter at Bloomberg when they first launched their offices in London. She briefly worked as an Economic Assistant at the British Embassy in Ankara, followed by her role as a Client Services Manager at Schroders working with institutional pension funds. For 10 years she worked at Reliance Mutual Insurance Society managing a £450mn UK Equity Fund as well as co-managing the Society's other funds including their Life & Pension Funds. She worked as a buy-side analyst at Duncan Lawrie Private Banking helping the team set up tailored portfolios using her skills in portfolio construction and asset allocation. She was appointed Director at Brewin Dolphin, charged with managing their £550mn AUM as Head of Portfolio Management. She decided to start up her own company in 2018; Ebru Smith Consultancy Limited, to make better use of her multi-skills and give something back to the industry as an analyst, trainer, mentor & marketing consultant at Denny Ellison and as an investment consultant for Incisive Media.

Nathan co-manages the Architas Multi-Asset Active Fund range and the Architas Multi-Manager UK Equity Fund. Nathan's analyst responsibilities consist of US economic research and US fund selection.
Nathan began his 19-year investment career at AIB Investment Managers, where he was responsible for launching and managing the AIB Multi-Manager Funds. Nathan joined Architas in 2010 and has significant experience of asset allocation, portfolio management and fund selection. Nathan has a BSc in Science, a Diploma in Financial Services and is IMC qualified.

Ruli Viljoen is Head of Manager Selection for Morningstar's Investment Management group in the EMEA region. She is responsible for driving the research efforts of the investment team to ensure best ideas are surfaced and reflected in the Morningstar client portfolios and client panels, as well as ensuring that there is a buy list of suitable alternative funds at all times. In addition, Ruli is involved in the management of consultancy relationships.
She is a member of the Portfolio Review Committee. Ruli joined Morningstar in 2010 through the company's acquisition of OBSR, where she had worked since2009. Most recently she served as head of investment research for Morningstar's open-end manager research in the UK.
Prior to joining OBSR, Ruli managed the long-only fund of funds portfolios for TriAlpha Investment Advisors, a London-based asset management group. She was previously a private client relationship manager for Nedcor Investment Group, a private banking organisation based in South Africa. She has worked in the UK fund research industry since 1996 and the investment industry since 1987. Ruli holds a B.Soc.Sc in Economics, with honours, from the University of Cape Town. She also holds the Investment Management Certificate and the Investment Advice Certificate.

Alex Moore is a Head of Collectives Research for Rathbones. He is responsible for carrying out quantitative and qualitative analysis to select funds for recommended use within portfolios managed at Rathbones across different asset classes and strategies. He sits on Rathbone's Collectives Research Committees and also assists the Rathbone Multi-Asset Portfolios team with their collectives' investments.
Alex joined Rathbones in May 2015. Prior to joining, he worked for the British Steel Pension Fund and Dimensional Fund Advisors, specialising in Asia-Pacific and Emerging Markets equity portfolio management. Alex graduated from the University of Durham with a BA (Hons) in Economics. He holds the Investment Management Certificate, is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, and is a CFA Charterholder
